When Toastmasters districts grow to a certain size, it becomes necessary to look at a reformation strategy that keeps the organization vibrant and its members successful. This process is akin to the realignment process that districts go through every year with divisions and areas. Both District 60 and District 86 have grown substantially since the original reformation in 2008, and we are at the point again where we must look to the future.
Rather than look independently at reformation, both District 60 and District 86 embarked on a joint-reformation process with the sole purpose of figuring out what made the most sense for the service of our members. With a focus on the best way to manage the geography of southern Ontario, extensive analysis has been done by two reformation committees, originally in 2012 and again in 2017.
Based on the recommendations put forth, Toastmasters Board of Directors has directed us to move forward with the reformation of two districts into three: 60, 86, and 123. We are excited to lead the members of our two districts into the future as we move forward with this initiative.
What does this mean for us? Both District 60 and District 86 elected two additional officers to the District Leadership team. These five officers will then work together for the 2020-2021 Toastmasters year, which will be the transition year to prepare for the boundary changes. In the Spring of 2021, both District 60 and District 86 will hold a joint conference where the election of the new officers for all three districts will take place, and the new boundaries will be effective July 1, 2021.
Review below the letter of direction from Toastmasters International CEO Dan Rex, and the map indicating the new boundaries. (note: this map will soon be updated with one minor change to the D86/D123 border in Mississauga)
There are many steps that still need to be taken to ensure a successful and smooth transition. We will continue to update you with new information as it becomes available. If you have any questions, please contact District Director Wendy Williamson.
