On December 3, 2019, Sun Life Speakers Corner Toastmasters Club honoured David John Lawrence’s legacy in its club by hosting this contest in his memory – and made it a very successful event! We had six participants and trophies and Placement Certificates were awarded to the Top Three. Each contestant received a Participation Certificate. Other club members also actively participated in the event by taking on roles such as timer, ballot counter, SAA, and judges.
Congratulations to Frank Lasry on winning the inaugural David John Lawrence Memorial Table Topics Contest. 2nd place winner is Omar Morejon and 3rd place winner is Sarah Dhanaraj.
A little background history…
David John Lawrence (DJL) was a long-time member of the club, an elderly gentleman, quick as a whip and had very funny speeches and stories to share. His favourite part of the meeting was Table Topics. He sadly passed away a few years ago, but we have remained in touch with his wife and daughters. They came to a few meetings, bringing David John when he wasn’t well enough to drive himself. His wife has contributed some funds to host a Table Topics Contest in his memory for the next five years.
