Throughout my near 5-year journey with Toastmasters, I have held many titles ranging from Guest Speaker, Prospective member, Club President, and Club VP of Education. My most recent being Area 3 Director. My name is Omar Omari, and it is my proud honor to announce to you that I am running for Division A Director for 2020-2021.
When I joined Toastmasters in 2015, I wanted to improve my public speaking skills and develop a few leadership traits along the way. Instead, I found myself coaching and mentoring some of my club members through their personal and professional goals; from delivering humorous speeches, telling creating stories, to presenting effective evaluations, and being the club’s VP Education provided me with that platform. When I became an Area director, I initially planned on visiting clubs and sharing with them my thoughts on running a successful club. Instead, I ended up being enthralled with the ideas and innovative culture each club brought, to the extent I suggested each club share its ideas with their neighbors and other clubs in the District.
My vision of what Toastmasters was and could be grew tenfold with the shear number of clubs, and the individual innovative cultures each brought to their members. Visiting each club revealed to me that communication, among anything, is key for a strong community, a solid foundation, and a thriving District.
Though I have yet begun my journey with Toastmasters, having worked closely with the current Division A director and my Area director team, I have learned first-hand what it takes to manage struggling clubs, membership drops, and the organization of multiple speech competitions. The answers of course being, Teamwork and Communication; both of which are dependent on one another.
What I bring to the role is my years of experience working individually with members to achieve their Toastmasters’ goals as a club officer, my leadership traits bringing struggling clubs to “clubs of Good-standing” as an Area director, and the promise of honest, open-communication among all members of Division A as its director.
My goal as the director for Division A is to bridge the communication gap between different Areas and Divisions, sharing information, forming relationships and building a solid foundation for a social society. I have often said, and will continue to say, Toastmasters would not exist without us, because We Are Toastmasters!
