Keynote Speakers
Carol Prahinski, DTM – International Director, Region 6
Keynote: “The Leader Within You”
Carol Prahinski, DTM, of East Lansing, Michigan, is in her 11th year as an assistant professor at Michigan State University. “I lead and teach supply chain management and negotiations to undergraduate juniors and seniors to prepare them for their profession,” she says. In 2018, the graduating seniors selected Prahinski for the Faculty Appreciate Award, as the professor who had the most positive impact on them during their tenure at the Eli Broad College of Business. Prahinski is the immediate past president of the Michigan chapter of the National Speakers Association. Prahinski also served two years as the Chair of the University Committee for the Libraries and is a member of the Negotiations Committee, Union for Nontenure-Track Faculty.
Prahinski holds a Ph.D. and master’s of science in operations management from Ohio State University. She also earned her master’s of business administration from Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. She earned her Dissertation Grant from the National Association of Purchasing Management in 2000. Her non-profit work also includes a role with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
A Toastmaster since 2008, Prahinski is a member of four clubs, including her home club, C Division Advanced Speakers, in Grand Ledge. She has held a number of high-profile leadership positions within Toastmasters and has attained the Distinguished Toastmaster designation—the highest level of educational achievement in the organization.
Nancy Watt, Nancy Watt Communications
Keynote: “Imagine the Possibilities: Mission Improv-able”
Nancy Watt is a sought after speaker, writer and improviser. A graduate of Second City’s Improv Conservatory and Sketch Writing Programs, this consummate professional delivers dynamic workshops on communications and creativity in unconventional environments.
Rated in the top five of the Leadership Workshops at the International Microsoft World Partner Conference and a regular at Huffington Post’s team building events, Nancy delivers powerfully creative and memorable sessions. She delivers her energy, talent and humour to the corporate, education and healthcare sectors. Her work is referenced in academic papers for pedagogical experiential learning.
Dr. Oshin Vartanian, Adjunct Assistant Professor, University of Toronto
Keynote: “The Creative Brain: Insights from Neuroscience and Beyond”
Oshin Vartanian received his PhD in experimental psychology from the University of Maine. He is the Editor of Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity, and the Arts and past Editor of Empirical Studies of the Arts. His co-edited volumes include “Neuroaesthetics” (Baywood Publishing Company), “Neuroscience of creativity” (The MIT Press), “Neuroscience of decision making” (Psychology Press), and most recently “The Cambridge handbook of the neuroscience of creativity” (Cambridge University Press). His main areas of interest include the cognitive and neural bases of aesthetics and creativity.

Accommodations
Single-occupancy rooms are available onsite at the Institute for Learning at a rate of $150/person, per night + taxes. This rate includes dinner on the night of arrival and breakfast the following morning. To reserve a room, please complete and email the IFL Reservation Request Form to ifl.reservations@bmo.com. You will receive a confirmation email shortly afterward.
