Toastmasters is a learn-by-doing system that combines study, practice, and feedback. Toastmasters has been helping people from diverse backgrounds become more confident speakers, communicators, and leaders since 1924.
By attending our Open House, you’ll be able to see first-hand how Toastmasters helps build confidence in leadership and communication skills.
This Open House Meetup will be hosted by two Toastmasters clubs: 20 Bay Toastmasters and 1 York Speakers. Both clubs are currently accepting new members. While COVID-19 restrictions are in place, the clubs are meeting online instead of in boardrooms. Regardless of the location, members attend regularly to learn from each other, provide constructive feedback, and practice their speaking skills.
The Open House is designed to demonstrate a typical weekly meeting: you’ll see a packed agenda presented professionally by a team of volunteers that involves nearly everyone in attendance. Guests are encouraged to participate in the TableTopics session and give a 1-minute speech off-the-cuff. (Experienced members will provide a demonstration first.) For extra encouragement, each guest who delivers a 30-second to 1-minute TableTopics speech will receive a gift.
Meetings also provide opportunities for members to deliver a short presentation demonstrating new skills or knowledge they obtained from their current project in Pathways, the Toastmasters education system. After they speak, an experienced member will provide both an oral and written evaluation. Everyone is encouraged to help the member by suggesting areas of improvement or pointing out areas of strength.
There will be time for questions during the session.
We look forward to seeing you there!
